The Outline and Cut of your Dress

All Irish dancing dresses begin with an outline, which is not just the shape or silhouette of the dress, but the way in which the basic fabric colours and types are combined.  These are the things that give the dress it's character and will determine what sort of decoration should then be appplied.

As you can see from our designs, this is an aspect that we take great care over.

These are just some ideas, we can work with you to choose a basic design that is just what you want.

Symetrical or Assymetrical?

There is almost an unlimited number of ways in which fabrics can be combined, but whether they are used in a symetrical or an assymetrical way can totally change the character of the dress. If you prefer a more classical and traditional sytle of dress, go for a symetrical look. On the other hand opting for an assymetrical design gives a more modern  and individual look.

How many Colours?

Combining too many different colours can lead to a dress that is confusing and overpowering. It is probably best to stick with no more than 3 base colours for the main silhouette, just 2 can be very effective. In some cases a single colour dress is the best choice, especially if you have plans for very elaborate decoration.

Your shape and colouring are also important when making this decision.
